Random Homage: For The Love of Art…

What’s going on people?! Sorry for the little hiatus but I’m back with another random homage!!!..As a photographer, I have developed a love for not only photos, but for every art medium. I enjoy paintings, sculptures, architecture, etc… This random homage post is directed towards a few recent exhibits and collections of art that I truly appreciate and was drawn to. Check out my list and feel free to comment and put me on to any other artists I may like.

1: Mike Leavitt’s Cardboard Sculptures caught my eye very quickly. He replicated various well known shoes using nothing but recycled cardboard and paint. The idea was genius and he pulled it off. Check out this exhibit at the Fuse Gallery in NYC when you get a chance.

2: The Christian Faur Crayon Series has created a whole lot of buzz. If you haven’t seen this yet then the title may decieve you. The pieces aren’t drawings made with crayons. In the words of Mr. Faur himself, he “assembled more than one hundred thousand hand cast crayons of varying colors and shades to produce a body of work that, to the best of my knowledge, is unlike anything done before in art.”

3: The Modern Fossil Collection of Christopher Locke is something I’d actually like to have in my house. Locke created ceramic sculptures of a few things that were relatively short lived due to ever-changing technology. He “fossilized” everything from the original ipod to the gameboy. These pieces are farely inexpensive so if it’s your cup of tea, get yourself the fossil of a floppy disk for just $50!!

4: Bernie Madoff…Heard of him? Google him if you haven’t. Chinese artist Yan Pei-Ming created an incredibly accurate portrait of him which probably won’t sell for that $100,000 price tag but seeing how Madoff is probably off to jail pretty soon, this may be the only thing left to remember him by.

5: My personal favorite is the Reality Check: Truth and Illusion in Contemporary Photography Exhibit. I suppose I’m biased because it’s my medium of choice but these are some of the cleanest images i’ve seen. The exhibit is compiled of various photographers so all the images are completely different in terms of style. There will be a Nicky Famous exhibit in the near future. Believe that.
