2: Okay okay. So the second order of business is also somewhat of a daily double as well. The Brooklyn Circus has become…Well…A Brooklyn staple. It’s become much more than just a shop. It is a brand that the fashion forward Brooklynite can embrace and incorporate easily into their wardrobe. There is a particular piece i’ve got my eye on and that’s the new shawl collar sweater. The detail on it is amazing so go pick this piece up asap in hopes that I havent already freaked it and made it impossible for you to get like me. Just kidding. Sorta.

3: The Sartorialist. The blog of an always traveling, highly fashionable family man with an eye for detail and incredible photography. Need I say more? Sounds like the story of my life within the next two years.

4: If you love high quality footwear that will have you “outchea” as my homies from Chi-Town would say, then you’ve got to appreciate Common Projects. This brand has proven to be nothing short of spectacular and their Spring/Summer 2009 continues their streak. Check it out here.

5: I love Brooklyn. As does Mos Def. Whenever I miss home a little to much, THIS is what I tune into on my ipod.

Apparently, the First Family is also the Fresh Family. While the Obama’s are a captivating and interesting family, sometimes my shallow side kicks in and I start to mentally scan their outfits during appearances. I must say, this family of four get pretty dapper and glamorous. J.Crew seems to be a brand of choice for the entire family. Michelle Obama wore an entire J.Crew fit a few months back and women were going crazy calling stores trying to find the exact items she wore. During President Obama’s inauguration, his two beautiful daughters Sasha n Malia sported the childrens line of J.Crew, Crew Cuts. But dont bother looking for these pieces because they were 100% custom; from the fabric to the cuts. Check out a photo of our great new first family! Congrats Mr. President!!!

 

You may have noticed a trend with recent posts. They are all pretty much surrounding the Inauguration of our FIRST African American President, Barack Obama. I hope you were able to catch it, no matter where you are. I commend all those who made it out to the actual mall to have a front row seat to history. My mother and aunts actually ventured out today downtown D.C. to check out the Inauguration live and direct. Unfortunately I woke up sick as a dog today so I’ve been watching history from my bed. If you aren’t in D.C. I hope you did as well especially right now because the  MTV Youth Inaugural Ball, “Be The Change”, is on!! Which leads me to an excerpt from one of my favorite books. #19: A MAN SHOULD KNOW HOW TO PROGRAM THE REMOTE

AND HOW TO FIND IT WITHOUT PITCHING A FIT WHEN IT GETS LOST. GENERAL PRACTICE OF HOUSEHOLD SKILLS IS AN ADMIRABLE TRAIT IN A MAN.

So if you were at club Love last night for the Akon, Jeezy, and T.I. appearances then you were certaintly in for a treat. The lineup was already ridiculous but seeing how Jay is in town to be a part of the most historical inauguration ever, Jeezy figured he might as well be a part of his performance as well. If you haven’t heard it already or seen a video of the Jay-Z/Jeezy collab at Love check it out right here folks. It’s bananas if I do say so myself. Happy MLK Day!!!

As we get closer to next week, more and more details are coming out about the events taking place during this momentous occasion. The official kick-off event titled: “We Are One: The Obama Inaugural Celebration at the Lincoln Memorial” is a free event taking place on the 19th and will also air on HBO. Tons of huge performers from different genres and generations are scheduled to perform including Beyonce, Usher, Stevie Wonder, Garth Brooks, Bono, John Legend, and Herbie Hancock just to name a few. Denzel Washington, Queen Latifah, Jamie Foxx, and Martin Luther King III are set to give historical readings as well.

This kick-off is just the beginning of a four-day schedule of various balls, concerts, and ceremonies that will encompass the entire Inauguration experience.

INAUGURATION: a formal ceremony to mark the beginning of something such as a president’s term of office. The most common usage of the term is in the context of a formal investiture whereby an individual assumes an office or position of authority or power. The term is usually used in reference to a politician’s assumption of the duties of head of state or head of government (e.g. the President’s inauguration).

I figured I’d throw the definition and the correct spelling in here so people could know exactly what they will be witnessing on January 20th, 2008. AND so people can stop misspelling inauguration because I will laugh at the next text I get that says “Yo Nick I’ll b in dc for inawgauration”. Really? I don’t know what that is but I’m sure Obama won’t be there. But he will be at his INAUGURATION and you should be there as well. D.C. will be a zoo for a week or more because this is history yet again. I wasn’t around for the Million Man March but this will be just as monumental so if you have some vacation time you may want to use it from the 19th to maybe the 23rd of January so you can enjoy the festivities. We all made history. Voters, non-voters, and people of all races, ages, and cultures. What took place on November 4th, 2008 was probably the most monumental occurrence I witnessed in my 22 years of existence besides September 11, 2001. After all the campaigning, hard work, and dedication, Barack Obama was elected President of the United States. I have gotten over the initial shock of what happened so now I can share my thoughts with you all. Tuesday November 4th, 2008…I was up relatively early that morning but not for school like I am every Tuesday. This day was different. I didn’t go to class. Instead of heading to my 11am class at the Real HU, I embarked on a journey to New York City because i’m not a registered voter in D.C. nor did I have an absentee ballot. Voting in Brooklyn was my only option. I traveled 4 hours to cast my vote for Barack Obama (and get a fresh haircut from Vernon at Changing Faces barbershop on Fulton St.) and it was one of the most gratifying experiences I’ve ever had. It felt even better when I received a text msg from mom dukes simply stating “Obama won”…I was detached from the rest of the world at the time because I was on the bus back to D.C. so it didn’t really hit me right away. But when I arrived., things just felt different. There was pandemonium in the streets considering it was 3am on a Wednesday. Drivers were honking their horns, waving Obama posters out their windows, and people were embracing complete strangers. 3am…Wednesday morning…From what I heard, HU campus had a huge celebration of their own right on the yard in the rain!!! That’s how you know its real. Black girls partying in the rain?? ONLY for Obama. He may be half white, but that means he’s also half black. Therefore, we have a President of African descent. Period. We have come a long way but we still have tremendous hurdles to leap. I’m worried about the safety of Obama and his family (but like I said before..It wont be a good look for anybody if anything happens to him). I still have a sense of fear for the future of our country, our culture, and our world. I’m still not sure about my own future but I do know that the top is where I’m headed some how. It just won’t feel good if my people don’t follow. If we continue to be an economic minority in places like our nation’s capitol, Washington, D.C., then what’s the point. So Barack, can you repair the damage done to your people that has been taking place for far too long? We stand behind you, beside you, and are here to uplift you as long as you come through on your end of the bargain. I did my 8 hours of traveling so you could do your 8 years (fingers crossed) of empowering. Lets make it happen. All of us…YOU…ME…HIM…HER…
