The Brooklyn Circus X G-Shock
They’ve done it again folks!!! Not just BKc, but the folks at G-Shock have put together yet another successful collaboration. Things like this make you forget about our depressing economy. And then you are reminded as soon as you go to purchase it. Only 200 of these are available to the general public and you can only get them at the three BKc locations throughout Brooklyn, San Francisco, and Chicago. The release date is this Friday, July 31st!!

Straight From The Source: Dana on Rugby RL Fall Collection
When it comes to the fall season, what more can you ask for than cool air, crisp leaves, and longer nights (for you party animals). Well, duh… fly clothes of course! Fall, in my opinion, is the best season for dressing. It’s cool enough to put together some awesome pieces, but not so cold that you have to cover them all up! The Fall 2009 collection at Rugby Ralph Lauren features great layering pieces with that old school preppy feel. Their classic cricket stripe blazers and shorts are the perfect staples for any wardrobe, and the new oxfords and rugbys, in the perfect fall color — burgundy — make great compliments. You ladies can expect a slimmer, sexier fit this year (yayy!) and the gentlemen can expect some very smooth pieces that capture the true essence of Rugby. Check out a few of my favorite pieces below and take a look at their website to see the clothes in action in the Fall Collection Video.

The Brooklyn Circus X Fila= HEAT
Fashion is all about good judgment and perfect execution. The Brooklyn Circus has consistently proven to be the judge, the jury, and the executioner. Whether it’s a collaboration or just a BKC venture, the brains behind the garments are always on right on point. The most recent product release from the folks at Brooklyn Circus combines their brand and Fila!! I used to love Fila as a kid. And they have rekindled that love which in turn has sparked a fire in my pocket because I must have every piece!!! Or maybe just the hidden-hood track jacket and the bag. No. Every piece!!! Check out the new BKC Fila pieces here.

Cap-Sac at The Reed Space NYC
Summer is almost here and as the days get warmer and brighter, it’s only right that folks add a bit more color into their wardrobe. Another thing people start t0 incorporate into their fashion sense is function. You don’t wear as many layers in the warm weather so logically, the functionality of your outfit decreases. You have less pockets and less bags to carry little items like keys but no worries. One of my favorite NYC boutiques, The Reed Space, has stocked up on Cap-Sacs, “A fanny pack for your dome!” They aren’t for everybody but they are pretty nostalgic and fresh to me. Reminds me of the movie “White Men Can’t Jump”. What do you think?

J.Crew ‘Mens Shop’ opens tomorrow!
The Mens Shop, a brand new J.Crew store is opening tomorrow at 484 Broadway @ Broome St. If you’ve ever visited (which you really should have) The Liquor Store in Tribeca, expect the same wooden floor, vintage feel. However, the new Mens Shop boasts a Suiting Parlour for all your custom tailered needs. Big shouts to the homie Courtney for putting us on to this, he’s been hard at work behind the scenes setting up the store for the past few weeks. If you can’t check out the opening tomorrow, pay a visit sometime this week or definitely during the weekend.

Random Homage: Been Gone For A Minute
Hello beautiful people!! I know I know. My posting has been a little inconsistent as of late. But there is a perfectly good reason for it. I’ve been traveling the world with Jay-Z and Beyonce as their personal photographer!!! No not really.I’ve actually just been in NYC introducing myself to new places, people, and things so that I would have plenty of things to blog about. In a nutshell, I took a vacation in my own city. I’ll be taking a few more vacations now that school is over, but I’ll do better with posting. I promise!! AND, as you can see, Matt and I are now on Twitter and we’ll use it to keep you all abreast of our interesting motions when actual posts are not an immediate option. Now on to the good stuff. This list is a bit longer than others because I’ve got so much catching up to do, but I promise you’ll enjoy it!!
Â
Â
1: Lauren London in Complex Magazine. This girl went from New-New to pretty much everywhere. She’s gorgeous and I’m going to take her out for dinner sometime in the near future. Watch me!!!
2: LateBoots is one of the best blogs running right now. They give me my daily dose of gossip, fashion, and its always fun following Sham and Marquis around while they live it up.
3:Â Ida Ljungqvist is the 2009 Playboy Playmate of the year. She’s definitely worthy of the award but she made history, being the 50th Playmate of the Year and the first to have been born in Africa!! She’ll be on my arm the day after I take Lauren London out.
4: J.Crew has free shipping for their children’s line, Crewcuts, now through May 31st!!! My beautiful children, Avery and Brook-lynn, will be celebrating their 2nd birthday on May 11th so this promotion couldn’t have come at a better time. If there are any little ones in your life, you know where to shop!!
5: Rick Ross is the man. His beard is perfect, his money is right, and his newest album, Deeper Than Rap is an instant classic. He bounced back like a round ball from his beef with industry bully, 50 Cent. Kudos Ross.
6: Sea is one of my favorite restaurants in Brooklyn. They now have a location in the Meat Packing District of Manhattan! I went for brunch the other day. Gotta love that Siamese fried rice.
7: Graphic tee-shirts are going to be a large part of my wardrobe this summer. I’ve already acquired a few from Brooklyn Circus but it’s only right that I explore other brands as well. I’ve got my eye on this 10 Deep tee with a graphic of Karl Lagerfeld on it!!
8: Converse Japan is so consistent with their footwear, it’s beginning to hurt my heart. Why does Japan get all the cool patterns and materials? Converse USA does well, but Japan is winning right now. Sigh. Guess I’ll see you all when I return from Japan.
9: It’s swimsuit time for V Magazine. And they blessed us all with more than one issue for the month. 6 issues with a different beautiful woman on each cover!!! It’s a recession but I’ve gotta have em all!!!
10: The second colorway of Nike Air Yeezy’s was released last Saturday. I haven’t gotten my hands on any pairs but these are too smooth for me to not say anything at all about them. Ye!! Wassup with my pair man?!! You’re gonna come running when the Air Nicky’s drop!!

The Brooklyn Circus: New Looks and Leather Books
Clearly I am a BKC advocate and supporter because they have reserved a permanent spot in my mind and on the site. I spend a lot of time in their Brooklyn location and lately I’ve been in there more often than usual so its only right that I write. Right? Right. For those who don’t know me, my varsity jacket game is on point these days. And this is a fairly recent occurrence because great brands, such as BKC, keep putting out great varsity jackets that just force me to purchase them. Hence why I’m heading to the Brooklyn Circus shortly to pick up another jacket. Or two. Probably either the BKC X Sabit black varsity or the BKC denim varsity jacket. Both pieces are amazing and I don’t think my life would be complete without at least one of ‘em. But what I really need to pick up is the brand new “Changing of the Guards” style book. The creators describe the book as being “a 128 page leather-bound visual collection of photography, art, design and history that have created and inspired the Brooklyn Circus Journey”. Yep. A Brooklyn Circus Coffee table book!! Consider it purchased. Stop by the shop and just enjoy the vibe and do some Spring shopping. If you’re in NYC this Thursday, join the BKC crew for the official release party of “Changing of the Guards” at Deity lounge in Brooklyn. Click here for more info or just read the poster below! The Brooklyn Circus Experience IS and will forever be everything!!!

The Roc Comes To Brooklyn…
As it should seeing how this is home of the Roc! That’s right folks. The Rocawear pop up shop will be in Brooklyn on Flatbush Ave. across from Atlantic Terminal starting today. If you haven’t been keeping up wih the brand, you might want to check out some of their more recent merchandise. They have strayed away from the more urban approach they had when the brand first launched and are becoming a bit more luxurious. Be sure to check it out if you are in NYC. The Roc mobile will be there until May 2nd and will be open from 10am-9pm. Take advantage of the 25% off everything promotion going on now! You never know who’ll be there so don’t walk by it based on the logo.

Support your ‘hood – BK Businesses at a Glance
In the past decade or so, there’s been an burst of small private owned businesses all around Brooklyn. Having been born and raised in Bed-Stuy, I’ve been able to notice this emergence first hand specifically in Bed-Stuy and Fort-Greene. There are waaaay to many of these to detail in just one post, so here are just a few.
Nu Yu Day Spa
Located at 43 Clifton Place between Classon and Grand Avenues this spa has been causing a stir since it opened. Covered everywhere from the Daily News to Wendy Williams, they offer all the services you’d expect from facials and massages, to hand and foot care. My moms, and grandma have been going there alot lately especially since the warm weather is coming. Spa’s traditionally seem to be a place just for females but I think I may go get a massage or something at the very least!
Hit up the website for more details:Â http://www.nuyudayspa.com/
Common Grounds
I love local coffee shops, no matter what neighborhood their in. There’s something about sitting down in a non-franchise coffee shop with a friend, a good book, or your laptop and spending an hour two as the smell of fresh coffee fills the air. Common Grounds located at 376 Tompkins ave at Putnam Ave. was a welcome addition to Bed-Stuy. The menu is what you’d expect with an assortment of coffees with paninis, soups, and cakes not to mention the Belgian Waffles that have caused a rave among regulars and newcomers alike.

Creative Blossoms
There was a serious florist drought in the area until Creative Blossoms opened in Bed-Stuy at the end of March. Now there’s finally a place to get fresh flowers locally, so dudes in the area take note! Although Valentine’s day is gone it’s always birthdays and anniversaries may be coming soon, or even as a “just because” gift. I’m hoping that everyone both in the neighborhood and show some love and support, especially since it’s brand new. It’s located on 370 Lewis Avenue at Macon Street.

Once again these are just a SMALL bit of the many businesses. Visit ShopBedStuy.com for a list of business in bed-stuy and check out bedstuyblog.com for all types of information about Bed-Stuy.

Spring Cometh: Male Must Haves
Technically, the Spring season is already among us although the weather seems to be doing its own thing. In my opinion, it’s not really here until the days are 70 degrees and the evenings are in the mid 50’s. I call it “get fresh weather”. A great spring day brings a certain mood for me. I feel like the world is my oyster and I could walk 100 blocks on a whim. With all that said, there are a few things that I feel a man should equip himself with in preparation for the Spring. And it’s not all about fashion either. Sometimes it’s about function as well.
A nice hat is essential on those days you don’t feel like really grooming yourself or if it just really compliments your outfit. Make sure you have a decent selection ranging from fitted caps to fedoras. Driving caps are my personal favorites because they can be dressed up or down and they come in so many patterns. Check out J.Crew, Urban Outfitters, and Major DC for some smooth Spring headgear.
Cool glasses are not a fad. They have been around forever and are not going anywhere folks. People seem to underestimate the effect a good pair of frames can have on their outfit, whether it be shades to block the rays or just clear lenses for style. Brands like Dita, Super, and Ralph Lauren are continuously releasing stylish eye wear so open your eyes and find some!! For a more vintage look and a large selection, check out Fabulous Fanny’s of NYC.
A layering piece is a must for the cooler days of Spring when you can’t get away with just wearing a tee shirt. Crew neck sweatshirts and varsity jackets will be in constant rotation for my wardrobe this season. There is so much you can do with them and a key to successful shopping is versatility. Brooklyn Circus, King Stampede, A.P.C. and other brands have managed to produce either cool crew necks, varsity jackets or both in to their Spring 2009 line for men.
Chino’s and broken in light colored denim is the way to go to stand out and be comfortable this Spring. Hard denim is usually what I wear for a large portion of the year. But the Spring weather calls for something lighter and softer. . Visit J.Crew or Rugby for a great selection of chinos and denim.
Classic footwear is the way to go on a sunny Spring day guys. This brings me to another one of my tips for successful shopping. Buy things that have been around long enough to never go out of style, or at least something you love enough to keep forever. That’s what I try to keep in mind when searching for footwear. Adidas Rod Lavers, Converse Jack Purcell’s, and Puma Clyde’s are perfect examples of classic sneakers. They can be worn with pretty much anything and they still look good when they are worn in!
One last thing gentlemen: don’t forget your bag. Where are you going to put your jacket when it’s too warm to wear, or your laptop so you can update your blog on the go, or your camera when you’re done shooting? Get yourself a bag with a bunch of compartments but make sure it’s not too bulky. You don’t want to look like you’re on a camping trip. Check out Manhattan Portage, Incase, and The North Face for some fly, functional bags.

TOPMAN/TOPSHOP
I was gonna wait until I actually visited the store to post about TOPMAN/TOPSHOP so I could really give my take on the place. It’s apparently a pretty big deal overseas and now it has a brand new shiny home here in NYC(I mean where else would they put it?) Quick assessments sum it up as the place that’ll “give H&M a run for their money”, and although I’m sure it’ll be frequented by the Urban Outfitter and Uniqlo crowd, it seems that there’s so much more to it than a mere rival store. Check out the official site and more pics after the jump…

How It’s Done…
I told you before that the Brooklyn Circus Experience is Everything and I wasn’t kidding. Other than being a great place to shop and network, Brooklyn Circus is also the spot to pick up fashion tips and witness innovation at its best. The BKC blog features a segment titled “Style Wars” in which fashionable folk showcase their most creative, freshest outfit and viewers can comment on who they believe has the best look. The most recent Style War is between 3 BKC female employees from the different locations in San Francisco, Brooklyn, and Chicago. Out of all the BKC Style Wars, this one is by far my favorite. All 3 women are wearing the red Brooklyn Circus varsity jacket but with their own twist. Check it out here and make sure you leave your vote. Varsity jackets are a strong piece this season so take notes because these women are killing it!!!
