That’s what Kanye said, anyway. I personally agree with him though. It is Black History month, but as quick as it began, is as quick as it ends. Hence, this post. Black History is ongoing. Regardless of the fact that the month is coming to a close, we have to keep the history going within ourselves. Street Etiquette got the memo with their new “Sewn From the Soul” editorial. It is an amazing fusion of photo and video paying homage to some major figures in Black history from Gordon Parks to Miles Davis. The photos are meant to emulate the spirit and style of such individuals and in my opinion, they pulled it off wonderfully. I especially enjoy the “Next Generation” segment with the photos of young Jeremiah. Thank you Street Etiquette. You gentlemen are making Black History and I hope we can come together and take it to another level. The Brooklyn Circus is another team of great people making Black History. Through style and character, they have not only become one of the most respected establishments in Brooklyn, but they also bring something unique to the lives of their consumers; a refreshing experience. I have much respect for them as a whole entity and as individuals. Check out their Black History month post here. They emphasize that it is so much more than a month, which leads me to my main point. M&N are spotlighting folks like that of Street Etiquette and Brooklyn Circus through photographs and video. We are capturing people speaking about three major things; their feelings on Black History, the inspiration they get from it, and how they will contribute to it. You may be wondering why we chose to start this during the last week of the month, and that is simply because it will be something that doesn’t end on the 28th of February. It will go beyond that. If you or someone you know is interested in such a project, please point them in our direction. I had a very busy weekend gathering footage for this project and the posts will start this week. Don’t get confused though folks. We are NOT going to stop spotlighting other people who aren’t of African descent. The site will go on as usual. We are just paying homage. We are just trying to make Black History every day…We don’t need a month…

It’s been a while since I’ve done a random homage so this is long overdue. Lately, I’ve been seeing a lot of amazing photography projects so it’s only right that I share with you all. It would be selfish, but still very visually stimulating, if I only displayed my own work. ;-)

1: One of my favorite photographers EVER, Annie Leibovitz, recently teamed up with Vogue and their creative director, Grace Coddington to crank out an amazing collaboration. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again; conceptual photography is the best. It’s always great to see photographs that tell a story, and this particular story is that of Hansel and Gretel. And what is the story of Hansel and Gretel without a witch? Yes, there is a witch, portrayed by none other than Lady Gaga, today’s queen of extreme fashion. Coddington said Gaga was “up for anything.” See what she meant by that here.

2: The Sartorialist, aka Scott Schuman, is M&N approved to say the least. His work is amazing and he is making great strides in the world of fashion and photography. He recently linked up with the folks at Burberry to do a project on trench coats and the finished product was surely something special. Schuman took pictures of 100 people wearing Burberry trench coats and outerwear to create the photo montage now known as “The Art of the Trench.”

3: The Brooklyn Circus is at it again! They have called upon photographer, John Midgley, for a portrait series on very stylish gentlemen 65 years of age and above. I can’t wait to see the outcome of this because BKc and Midgley always produce great work. Almost makes me want to be 65. Almost. Check out the info here and make sure to tell grandpa!

The Brooklyn Circus has consistently proven to be the judge, the jury, and the executioner. Whether it’s a collaboration or just a BKC venture, the brains behind the garments are always on right on point. The most recent product release from the folks at Brooklyn Circus combines their brand and Fila!! I used to love Fila as a kid. And they have rekindled that love which in turn has sparked a fire in my pocket because I must have every piece!!! Or maybe just the hidden-hood track jacket and the bag. No. Every piece!!! Check out the new BKC Fila pieces here.

Clearly I am a BKC advocate and supporter because they have reserved a permanent spot in my mind and on the site. I spend a lot of time in their Brooklyn location and lately I’ve been in there more often than usual so its only right that I write. Right? Right. For those who don’t know me, my varsity jacket game is on point these days. And this is a fairly recent occurrence because great brands, such as BKC, keep putting out great varsity jackets that just force me to purchase them. Hence why I’m heading to the Brooklyn Circus shortly to pick up another jacket. Or two. Probably either the BKC X Sabit black varsity or the BKC denim varsity jacket. Both pieces are amazing and I don’t think my life would be complete without at least one of ‘em. But what I really need to pick up is the brand new “Changing of the Guards” style book. The creators describe the book as being “a 128 page leather-bound visual collection of photography, art, design and history that have created and inspired the Brooklyn Circus Journey”. Yep. A Brooklyn Circus Coffee table book!! Consider it purchased. Stop by the shop and just enjoy the vibe and do some Spring shopping. If you’re in NYC this Thursday, join the BKC crew for the official release party of “Changing of the Guards” at Deity lounge in Brooklyn. Click here for more info or just read the poster below! The Brooklyn Circus Experience IS and will forever be everything!!!

I told you before that the Brooklyn Circus Experience is Everything and I wasn’t kidding. Other than being a great place to shop and network, Brooklyn Circus is also the spot to pick up fashion tips and witness innovation at its best. The BKC blog features a segment titled “Style Wars” in which fashionable folk showcase their most creative, freshest outfit and viewers can comment on who they believe has the best look. The most recent Style War is between 3 BKC female employees from the different locations in San Francisco, Brooklyn, and Chicago. Out of all the BKC Style Wars, this one is by far my favorite. All 3 women are wearing the red Brooklyn Circus varsity jacket but with their own twist. Check it out here and make sure you leave your vote. Varsity jackets are a strong piece this season so take notes because these women are killing it!!!

Spreading love is the Brooklyn way as you may or may not know (hope you all saw the “Notorious” movie), but only when it is deserved. The Brooklyn Circus definitely deserves some love from me. And no,  not just because they sell premium goods and provide me with fresh clothes but because of the friendly vibe they have managed to create in their shop. When I walk in I’m greeted by everyone and the associates shake my hand, give me a product update and just have friendly conversation. It’s such a great environment to be in. They started out as a small shop near downtown Brooklyn that sold dope tee’s and exclusive sneakers. I’m pretty sure I say this every time I talk about BKC but they are now a Brooklyn staple. But it doesn’t stop there. They have locations in San Francisco and Chicago. I’ve been doing quite a bit of shopping at the Brooklyn location lately and I thought i’d share some of my recent acquisitions with you folks. BKC is the talk of the town. East Coast. West Coast. Worldwide!!
